Andrea Mitchell

Andrea Mitchell is a Washington D.C.-based American TV journalist, anchor and commentator. Mitchell graduated from the University of Pennsylvania with a degree in English literature. In the year 1967, Mitchell began her career as a reporter with KYW Radio and TV in Philadelphia. In 1976 she became a CBS affiliate WDVM-TV. (then WTOP in Washington DC). She was hired by NBC News Washington two years following that as a general reporter. In 1981 began reporting on the White House and became chief congressional correspondent in 1988. Mitchell was named chief White House correspondent by NBC News in the year 1992. Mitchell hosted and was an expert panelist on the TV show Meet the Press. Mitchell was a part of the panel during 1988 Presidential Debates between George Bush, and Michael Dukakis. Mitchell is married with Alan Greenspan, former Chairman of the Federal Reserve Board. Mitchell has received numerous awards for her journalism achievements, such as an award called the Goldsmith Career Award from John F. Kennedy School of Government in 2005. Mitchell was also awarded by the Leonard Zeidenberg Award by Radio-Television News Directors Association in 2004. Mitchell covered in the White House first for NBC News between the years 1981-88, which was in the two years that Ronald Reagan served as president. She covered many notable reports, including arms control, budget taxes as well as the Iran Contra scandal. Mitchell also attended various summits while in the company of the President Reagan together with Mikhail Gorbachev.
